Follow our adventures as we demonstrate just how easy it is for anyone to experience an exciting caravan holiday in Queensland and up to Laura in Cape York Peninsula …….even if you don’t own a caravan. (More of this a little later).

South East Corner to Laura.

We’re going to launch from Forest Glen on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, head north and a few kilometres from Gympie we’ll hang a left, cross the Mary River, head west, and check out the freecamp in Kilkivan, a fantastic little town with a gold mining history, in the South Burnett.

From there we intend to head towards Eidsvold and then to Theodore where you’re going to receive a surprise when you see what this little town has to offer the caravan traveller. (Hint:  river junction, free camping beside the water, fishing, hot showers, toilets …. all a short walk to town).

From there on we’re a little free-form but you’ll see (and possibly camp) in a little know location called The Staircase Range, later Virgin Rock and a host of other interesting spots on our way to Laura in Cape York Peninsula. We intend to take about a month for this journey.

Why Laura, I hear you ask.  Well my dad was the Police Officer there in the late 40s and early 50s.  It was then almost a frontier town but I have vivid recollections of Aboriginal cave painting, old buildings, a wrecked bridge spanning the river, crocodiles…..you know, all the stuff that some of us more senior folk experienced in our youth.

All of our intended route is bitumen, apart from the odd bit under repair and we assure you that almost anyone with a van with a shower and toilet will be able to undertake this trip.  And for those who absolutely must have plug-in power, we will be staying in the odd caravan park so you can get your fix of power and top up on essentials.

Our experience is that a 20 foot caravan with an ensuite is quite sufficient for senior people, or younger ones as well, to explore some of Queensland’s hidden gems in the safety and comfort of a caravan.

OK?  Ready?  Buckle up and follow along for the caravan experience of a lifetime ….. a trip that almost anyone with a reasonable caravan can enjoy, safely.  And it will be fun. We promise.

Cheers

Lyall and Trish

P.S. On the way we’ll also be demonstrating inverters, toilets (Yep.  Even the humble dunny), battery chargers, solar panels, thermos cooking, wheel nut indicators, a host of other caravan related things, even a CPAP machine because I (Lyall) use one every night.

Disclaimer.

Trish and I have been appointed Eden Caravan Brand Ambassadors for Caravan World on the Sunshine Coast.  Actually we bought our Eden Trackvan because it was the best fit for us feature-wise and price-wise after selling our expensive and very reliable Spinifex 24 foot caravan last year.  The Eden has proven to be very reliable, safe and comfortable.
