Rocky Creek Memorial Park

The Child Bride and reckon that EVERY TRAVELLER should drop in to the Rocky Creek War Memorial Park just north of Tolga on the Atherton Tableland. This is a blunt reminder of how grateful we should be for the efforts and sacrifices our diggers made so that we can live the lives we live today. Australia’s biggest hospital was here (2400 beds) and the literally dozens of rocks with plaques identifying the various divisions and brigades involved. Apart from that, it’s a great parking spot for travellers for a small donation. You can stay 72 hours but you must be self contained with a grey water tank. There’s no power or water but if you have a couple of batteries and a few solar panels that should not be a problem. We’ve been on the road for almost a month and haven’t needed to be plugged in to power, but we will admit that we’re staying a night in a Mareeba Van Park and we did use the A/c. Bolting for Mt Molloy tomorrow where my nostalgic trip will begin because it was there that the bitumen stopped in my croc hunting days. It was then axle breaking corrugations and log bridges, and not forgetting the fencing pliers, 8 gauge fencing wire and lots of luck.
